Day 283 Big Day Tomorrow

Monday, October 10 – Tomorrow is the 4th World Wide Photo Walk and I am leading one down at the steam museum. We have 30 people registered, which is fantastic. I believe we had just 12 last year. Should be a fun time for all. I just hope the wind cooperates. It is right at 90 degrees out right now and that old wind is howling. Talk about miserable!! Here are a  few of   the museum shots I took  last weekend. I would imagine we will have some terrific pictures from tomorrow. The walkers will not have trouble finding things to shoot for sure.

Day 281 A Real Photog!

Saturday, October 8 – Walter is catching on when it comes to doing nice smooth water. These are from Giant Springs and he was on a tripod right at water’s edge. The light was golden and that made for some great shots. He found an awesome spot that took advantage of the light shining though that archway. Good job, Walter. I think we will more than likely run down there tonight for some shooting if the wind calms a little.

Day 280 Firey Sunset

Friday, October 7 – Walter and I went down to Giant Springs a few nights ago for him to practice shooting flowing water. He is enjoying learning the workings of that new G12, I think. I will share a few of his tomorrow. There is a planned burn west of Great Falls that is throwing lots of smoke into the atmosphere and making some interesting sunsets. We stopped at Black Eagle Falls after Giant Springs got too dark for shooting and I got these with my G11. The sun went down extremely fast and I just caught the tail end of it’s decent. I hope that fire is out now, as they are forecasting strong winds up that way today; up to 80 mph in the high mountains, I heard this morning. It is already gusting pretty good here.

Day 279 Curvy

Thursday, October 6 – I had an assignment due last night for my latest online class that required one of the shots to be curved leading lines. What a challenge! I did not want to use the traditional shot of a winding road or railroad tracks. So down to the museum I went. Leslee, Curtis and Carl came along too to do a little early morning shooting.  I ended up not happy with anything I took, but had to choose something to go up. So here is what went up and the alternative choices that went on the Q&A board for additional evaluation. The hard part was getting in a postion that would use the curves as leading lines. And then there was that inside lighting to deal with. But the assignment is done and I am very happy with my other 3 assignment shots for leading line, triangle line and eye line. Those were easy.

Day 278 The Guardian

Wednesday, October 5 – I made a trip to Highland Cemetery a couple of days ago to check out my grandparent’s gravestone. It seems that they had a terrible problem with vandals who tipped over over 200 headstones. All was well with the relative’s ones.  What in the world would be the pleasure in destroying something like that?  I discovered this really neat wood carving while I was there.

Day 277 Fall Foliage

Tuesday, October 4 – You have to appreciate the foliage of fall; that is the plants that are going to seed.  Lots of golden colors and great textures. We aren’t seeing much in the way of leaves turning yet.

Day 276 A Sedonian Hawk

Monday, October 3 – I just found this photo on the memory card in Walter’s new G12. I think it was taken in Sedona and is a hawk of some kind. Need to dig out a bird book to see for sure it’s official name. I am not sure that I like that G12 any better than the G11, maybe not as much, in fact. They changed more than I realized when I bought it. But I am figuring it out for him and then we will see what he can do with a decent camera in hand. He needs a new camera bag badly. Any suggestions? Off to camera club tonight with Curtis. We are doing a presentation on resizing photos which should be very helpful.

Day 275 There’s Nothing Like A Cat Nap

Sunday, October 2 – Jade loves to take an afternoon nap. Actually she loves to nap anytime of the day or night.  Wouldn’t it be nice to be a cat?!

Day 274 Happy 84th Birthday, Mom

Saturday, October 1 – Mom’s 84th birthday was on the 16th and I finally have a photo to post in her honor. I hope I can be as youthful as my mom  when I reach that age. She is such an inspiration! Aimee and I took her to lunch and then out clothes shopping. After 3 hours of trying on clothes, she came away with some very pretty things and even a necklace and earrings.  I feel so fortunate to have my mom still here and so close by. Our weather is so beautiful today. The brief rain we had yesterday has made it so fresh. Everything was white with frost this morning.
