Day 61 Please Bring Some Spring Weather Soon

Wednesday, March 2 – I am so sick of cold weather. We have wind again today and there is a winter storm moving in tonight with more snow. Yuck!! Isn’t it wonderful that we can get fresh flowers, even in cold Montana, any time of year. Here are some shots with silver and soft gold reflector.

Day 60 Hello March

Tuesday, March 1 – Here is a Montana Sunset that I shot a few nights ago.  We still have the best sunsets here; they have such great color and last so long. AZ was lacking the colors and then only lasted a few minutes. It is right at 30 degrees right now, but more winter is on it’s way tomorrow night.  Will have to look for a sunset tonight. It is very overcast out, so don’t know.

Day 59 Thank God For Fresh Veggies

Monday, February 28 – The last day of February and I am wondering if Spring is going to ever come. March is supposed to come in like a lion and go out like a lamb. The temp is above zero, but the wind is howling.  What a ground blizzard we are having. You can hardly see outside for moving snow. It was quite the trek to the chicken coop this morning. The seed catalogs have begun to arrive and I am getting itchy fingers for unfrozen soil. Thank goodness we have produce trucks that come to Montana to keep us supplied with fresh veggies. We pay dearly for them this time of year. I am missing the reasonably priced fresh things that we could get in Sedona.  I need to get my Aerogarden out again and get something growing.

Day 58 Brrrr!!

Sunday, February 27 – It is still 20 below out right now at 10 in the morning (Friday). Brrr!! What a miserable cold snap we are experiencing. They are saving one more day and night of this and then some warming. But with warm comes wind out here.  Calving is going fine and the cows seem to know that they better wait until it warms up. The ones that have been born are up and running already. It sure helps to have lots of straw in sheds for them to be born in. Spent yesterday afternoon with Becca and Emma. It is always fun to visit with those two goofballs. They are such sweet girls. Here is what the Highwoods look like in winter from my bedroom window.

Day 57 Baby, It’s Cold Outside

Saturday, February 26 – I am sitting here on Thursday morning with the thermometer hovering around 10 below zero. The wind blew hard all night, so the wind chill is around 25 to 30 below. Brrr. The poor cows are bunched up in the coulee trying to get some warmth. The hay is going to taste extra good to them this morning. I shot these last night right before sunset. A few does and fawns are browsing on some left over hay right below my house.  I am sure they are a bit chilly too.

Day 56 Look Out For Elk!!

Friday, February 25 – Instead of Watch For Deer signs, you see Watch for Elk signs around Flagstaff, AZ. Isn’t this sing pretty? They truly do have an elk problem there. We saw so many dead elk laying along the road that had been hit. One morning there were 5 of them all in a group. I would imagine that a semi hit them in the night. Not a place I would advise driving after dark.

Day 55 What Was I Thinking?

Thursday, February 24 -  We visited both Zion and Bryce Canyons on our way home.  There was a tunnel that Walter talked me into going through leading from Zion to Bryce. What was I thinking? I guess I had no idea that it was a very long tunnel.  Holy cow!!  I shot this one from the truck as we approached the entrance.

Day 54 Becca’s Take On Enjoying Birthday Cake

Wednesday, February 23 – Becca served as the official photographer for Bryton and Gage’s birthday party. Here are the shots she took of them eating Birthday Cake. Two Bales is a very good age, don’t you think? Nice job, Becca. You are quite the photographer.

Day 53 Nap Time

Tuesday, February 22 – Jade loves to cuddle to Walter when he takes his regular after lunch nap. This is a regular routine with the two of them. Couldn’t resist snapping this one. Not the best, as I didn’t want to disturb them, so leaned over and zoomed from the kitchen.

Day 52 Land Of Dreams

Monday, February 21 – It has finally warmed up to a balmy 25 and the wind is howling and drifting the snow like crazy. The Weatherbug says we are getting more snow in tomorrow night and more subzero temps. Had 3 calves yesterday and all are healthy. We stopped at IKEA twice on our way home from Sedona and what a time we had. This place is just heavenly for shopping. The late afternoon stop was so productive, that we had to go back for more in the morning. We had room to bring things back this time so the vehicle was loaded. I have included a picture of Walter loading the last things in.
