Day 31 Happy Birthday, Bryton and Gage! January 31, 2013

Today is a huge celebration for my twin grandson’s Bryton and Gage. It is their birthday!! Their mom even drove through a snow storm last night to get home for the celebration. The days are off in numbering right now, but I wanted to get the big 4 year olds day on the correct day and it was easier to do it this way. Becca did that neat cake for them. Pretty cool job! They loved it from what I hear. Thanks for the pics, Tiffany.

Day 34 One Big Drumstick

This male Common Ostrich was on the move, probably after a mate.  The female is lighter colored, more grey and brown. We observed many pairs where the male was doing his strange courting dance. Isn’t that one huge thigh (drumstick)? I bet it would be Tough!! Another month is under our belts and another one closer to spring.

Day 33 Weaving

This little Rufous-tailed Weaver does a pretty darned good job of weaving a nest, don’t you think?

Day 30 Up, Up and Away

We were out early scouting for wildlife when here came a balloon. Not something I have a desire to do, but some sure loved it. I am not sure how much better it was for viewing animals, but it was said to be very peaceful.

Day 29 Ashy Starling

The lighting wasn’t the best for capturing this Ashy Starling, but one can’t be choosy when confined to a Land Rover.

Day 28 Cokes Hartebeest

A Cokes Hartebeest family has found some shade to relax in.

Day 27 Elephants’ Cousins??

The closest living relative to these little Rock Hyrax is the elephant.  Can you believe that? It has similar teeth, toes and skull structure. The incisors even grow out to be little tusks. They were very abundant around the Lobo Wildlife Lodge we stayed at.

Day 26 On The Move

I almost dumped this photo and then realized that I really like the blurrred movement shown here of the Cape Buffalo. When they decide to leave the scene they flat out truck.

Day 25 Happy Lazy Day, Gregg

Today is my son-in-law’s birthday. I hope he enjoyed a restful day like this little Black-Backed Jackal is. We just got back from a lovely dinner with Nick. Walter had an extra large portion in your honor, Gregg.

Day 24 I Did It!

Here I am exiting the Masai hut. Anyone who knows me well, knows how afraid I am of heights and tight places. This was quite the brave task for me to undertake and I did it!!
