Day 157 Balance Rock

Tuesday, June 5 – Balance Rock was one of my favorites to shoot. This was right at sunset. The same rock formation can be seen in that self portrait from a couple of days ago. We missed the bad weather, but it was pretty spectacular viewing the clouds moving through Great Falls. Haven’t heard much about damage, but with baseball size hail and wind it has to be not good. The sky is starting to look threatening again today which is forecast.

Day 156 It’s A Bird, It’s A Plane, It’s Sure Not Superman!

Monday, June 4 – We have some stormy weather headed this way today. The weatherman is even mentioning possible tornadoes. I am not  in the mood to handle severe weather. I shot these with my G11 as we drove home right outside of Salt Lake. It is rather hard to get a truly clear photo when you are going 75 down the highway. We don’t see as many spray planes around home anymore now that the farmers have their own sprayers to run around in the fields. Looks to me to be a dangerous occupation.

Day 155 Home Again and Remembering

Sunday, June 3 – We arrived safely home last night and I was bushed. Things have grown alot here while I was gone. I have been enjoying all the goodies that have come in the Bountiful Baskets the last two Saturdays. Leeches are fabulous and something new to enjoy. I can see lots of yummy ideas to cook this week. I am sure grateful that Walter and the girls enjoy those early Saturday mornings for pickup. It is time to start going through all those Arches/Canyonlands shots now. Here is one of my early morning captures of a fellow photographer walking through North Arch. I took a series of these and will put them up one of these days. I think they turned out really well, as the fellow asked me for copies and I had lots of praises during critique.

Day 154 That’s A Good Spot, Carl

Saturday, June 2 – I can not tell you how thrilled I was with this workshop. It was a learning experience just like Zion was. I am loving Lightroom and my Mac more all the time. Someone made a comment in the group that it looked like a Mac workshop, as there was only one PC in the bunch. I was thrilled to get to do so much in Photomatix too. This area is just perfect for HDR. The highlight of the trip was getting to spend time with my oldest son. We have never done anything like this together and I am sure we will again soon. It was an awesome experience that I will never forget. Here is a shot of him scouting out the terrain for a killer shot.

Day 153 Canyonlands and The Green River

Friday, June 1 – Hello June and welcome summer. We ventured to Canyonlands today. Here is a pano of the area around Green River Overlook. I have some really cool HDR’s that I did here that will be coming in the future. We went to Mesa Arch also and that was one scary experience. People lose their fear when the sites are gorgeous, I guess. You will understand when I get those pics edited. I have over 1100 to go through, so it might take a little while.

Day 152 Craziness

Thursday, May 31 – Can you believe that May is actually over? School will be out soon and the weather will be heating up. Soon it will be fair time. I am looking forward to my stint as a superintendant again. It has been a few years since I have taken on that job and this time it will be in the photography department. That is quite a difference from the livestock barn. The week has heated up here in Utah and the afternoon hikes have been brutal. We had a huge one this evening to Delicate Arch. Strenuous is what I would rate this one. Straight up a ridge and then a narrow trail along a cliff in 92 degree weather. My knees held up and actually seem stronger.  I still can not believe I did it. What a spectacular place. I lucked out with this capture of someone really enjoying the sites. I was all set up to shoot the whole arch when I noticed him and zoomed in just in time to capture a jumping shot.  I was the only one in the group that got it. There will be more shots to come of this place.

Day 151 Hi, Little Guy

Wednesday, May 30 – This little guy was quite hard to capture. I had to wait for him to pick a dark spot on the wall where he didn’t blend right in. This was at a site that Carl found on his own while out scouting while I was in Lightroom class. We went here after our morning shoot when everyone else was having breakfast. It was well worth the little side adventure. It had lots of petroglyphs which I had fun shooting also. There were lots of people rock climbing close by too.

Day 150 Trees, Or Should That Be Bushes

Tuesday, May 29 – May that should be Bushes, but this is about what you get in the tree category in Utah. This was shot just above the Green River overlook. Alot like Horseshoe Bend, but a bit more spectacular.

Day 149 Stars, Stars Everywhere

Monday, May 28 – We did  star trails and celestial shots tonight and it was so much fun. I got so many good shots. Here are a couple of examples for a celestial and a star trail.  this was a new experienc for Carl and he was quite impressed with what we achieved. Make sure to click on all the photos to enlarge.

Day 148 Off To A Great Start

Sunday, May 27 – We had a great start to the adventure today. We shot in several places in Arches today. Park Ave. and Balance Rock were awesome. A self portrait silhouette seemed appropriate here. That is Balance Rock on the right, as you can probably guess.
