Day 325 Here, Kitty, Kitty

This could be a female or a young male lion. What a beautiful creature, don’t you think?

A Couple Closer

Here are a couple closer shots of a buzzard. We saw so many of these guys when heading toward the river in the Serengeti cleaning up the carcasses of the animals that die when crossing the river. Evidentally, according to the guides, they get water in their lungs is what kills them.

Day 324 How Many Do You Find?

We saw a sick Cape Buffalo one evening right below where we were staying at Lobo. Sure enough by morning the big guy had expired and the buzzards were busy at work. By the evening there wasn’t much left of the carcass. How many different kinds of buzzards do you see here? Make sure to enlarge to take a closer look.

Day 323 A Few More Prickly Shots

Here are a few more Acacia vs Giraffe shots. Gotta love Giraffes. I know that my grandsons sure do.

Day 322 Yummy Acacia Tree

I am still wondering how in the world a giraffe can eat the leaves of an Acacia tree. Their tongues have to be mighty tough. I wouldn’t want to run into one of these trees in the middle of the night. Our storm is over, but now the wind start blowing. Feeding cattle was not a treat this morning. The wind would drift our tracks shut as soon as we drove. I am afraid the only way I am going to get out is for the big snow blower vehicle to come out of the shed. You can’t do that on our 1 mile road until it quits blowing, as it will drift right in again. Such is  life in rural Montana.

Day 321 Spotted Thick Knee

Yup, that is this bird’s name. I never saw it get up, so didn’t realize it has long legs like a Plover.

Day 320 Mud Bath

I wonder if this mud bath is going to help Mr./Ms. Elephant’s complexion. The sun is finally out this morning and the snow seems to have stopped. I just measured the snow on our deck; 29 inches. It is even deeper in the middle where I couldn’t reach. When I did chores this morning, the snow was over my knees everywhere.Makes it very hard to get around. We ship calves on Wednesday and it might be tough getting them hauled. They were sure glad to see the hay bales this morning. I have decided that the people that like snow, don’t have to work out in it everyday.

Day 319 Graceful Flying

Here are those Grey-Crowned Cranes flying. Such gorgeous flying critters.

Day 318 My Favorite Bird; the Grey-Crowned Crane

This was my favorite bird of all in Tanzania – the Grey-Crowned Crane. What an elegant and colorful fellow, don’t you think? We have a horrible snow storm going on right now. They just issued a blizzard warning until 6 tonight for Great Falls. Parent Teacher Conferences in Great Falls have been cancelled even. Animals all taken care of and I am staying in except for getting the eggs.

Day 317 Josi Comes Home

Yup, baby Josi came home today during our horrible snow storm. I think the docs decided she should leave the hospital before the weather got any worse. Carl sent this photo when they were ready to go. The little doll looks pretty toasty warm in her new snow suit. Welcome home, Josephine Louise. The snow is really coming down out here. I just got the eggs and there are several inches of snow on the grass. Walter says the highways are going to be awful by morning, as they are wet right now. Mr. Weatherman was dead on about the forecast. I am sure glad that I don’t have to go anywhere beyond the barn for the next two days. Thank goodness my sweet sis came take over for me and take care of Mom and Dad.
