Day 166 Rewarded by a Sunset on the Clouds
We were not in a position to see the actual sunset, but I sure could see the reflected colors on the clouds as it turned to dusk. However, the day’s drama was not over yet.

On the way home, we drove into fog everywhere it had hailed. The temperature dropped dramatically when the white “stuff” was on the ground.
As we came into town, it looked more and more like the storm wasn’t just heading north like we thought, it was heading right toward us. It poured rain the entire two hours we were there. We had no idea that there were flash flood warnings in the area and we were lucky to have avoided the flooded highway that they had closed. The lighting was awful and there was no swimming in the hot springs. The adventure didn’t end there, though.
Not sure what we were really seeing here. It sure looked like tornado type clouds right outside of White Sulphur.
Friday was an adventure, for sure. I went along with my son to pick up his kiddos in White Sulphur for the weekend. There were severe storms forecast for the area, but we had no idea they would turn out the way they did. We were driving toward some dark clouds over Kings Hill, with just a little rain. And then we drove in to the hail. The first photo is the 3 or more inches deep white stuff on the highway. Â The second image is driving out of the hail, into just rain. The visibility was awful at that point. These were taken with my iPhone. More to come.
Sourdough pancakes are the favorites around here with the grandkiddos. I have had my started for 47 years and it was going long before I received mine. I would have to guess that it is close to a hundred years old. It is a milk starter and the best! You should see how many pancakes this kiddo can eat. She helped me do Bountiful Baskets this morning and was not happy that she had to wait to get home to eat. It was a great basket day and the produce was outstanding. Â I had plenty of volunteers too. The organics looked especially good. I have all the paper work completed and the survey done too. So it was a good day.
Ok, this is getting ridiculous. I need to get busy and find out what these are. Big trip to Glacier coming up next weekend and I need to brush up on my identifying skills. Sure am hoping for lots of macro shots.
I guess I better haul out my Montana wildflower books and get busy with identifying some of these cuties I took photos of.
One has to wonder how in the world the seed ever got started in these rocks for this little tree to grow so well. You have to be pretty tough to grow wild in Montana.
