Day 64 Birds On The Wing
Friday, March 5 – Here are several shots of birds that were surrounding the ship as we came in to the Panama Canal just at dawn. The last shot is later in the afternoon when the sun came up and we actually had blue sky. Curits can probably tell me what kind of bird these are. I moved the heifers home today for calving. We have two so far and both are tiny and healthy; just the way I want them. I will start going down at night to check on them. There are supposed to be rain showers on Friday, so that change might bring on calves. The corrals are just starting to get some dry spots, so I wish the rain would stay away. My leg is really sore tonight after being out and about all day. Trudging through thick mud isn’t the best thing for it, I guess. Motrin is in order tonight for sure.

I can’t tell from the silhouette, but it looks like it could be a tern of some kind. Apparrently related, and with a closer match on the tail is a Red-bill Tropicbird. A White-tail Tropicbird is possible, but it looks like panama is outside of the range for it…but the map in my book stops half way down Mexico…

Tiny and healthy is perfect! So sorry about your leg. Hopefully the motrin will work and will give you some relief!
These are great. I like the colour variations. The 2nd one down is my very favorite!
