Day 79 There Is No One Quite Like Jade

I cherish my sweet Jade. I can not imagine not having her in my life right now. I never thought I would let myself get attached to another cat after Tripod. Funny how that happens. I have always been a cat lover and I guess it is just going to always be that way. She will never take Tripod’s place in my heart, but she sure has her own special place there. The awful loss Tiffany and her family is going through made me appreciate my sweet girl even more. Our pets are not with us on earth forever, so we need to love them an extra lot while we have them. Tiffany told me that when she explained to her boys that Raven might be leaving them, Gage wanted to come to my house and steal Jade. I guess she has made an impression on him too. She is a really special kitty. This is an iPhone shot from in the middle of the night with just the light from the TV.

Heavy Hearts

That beautiful kitty that I had on my blog two days ago has died. She was injured a week ago and developed a blood infection that she could not fight due to the fact she was FIV+.  She loved those boys and died in her kitty bed at home surrounded by her family. Broke my heart when Bryton called me this morning to tell me that his Raven had died. Our pets become such a part of our families, don’t they. They gave her such a wonderful life for the months that they had her and she gave them back memories to last a lifetime. What kind of a cat loves her boys so much that she goes everywhere with them like a dog. She slept with them and even ran through the sprinkler with them. I will never forget the day we found her in the field. She took one look at those two boys and came running and just rubbed and rubbed on them. It was love at first sight. This brings back the heartache I felt when I lost my beloved, Tripod, years ago. Raven, you are at peace now and waiting at the Rainbow Bridge for your boys to be reunited someday. Give my Tripod a rub for me.

Day 78 Bare-faced Go-away-bird

This Bare-faced Go-away-bird just would not cooperate to get a nice clear shot of it’s whole body. Both sexes look alike, so this could be a he or she. I thought it was such an attractive bird that I needed to share it, even if the shot if not the best.

Day 77 The Boys and Their Raven

Bryton and Gage love their cat, Raven. At times, it is hard to believe that though. She is extremely tolerant and puts up with a whole lot. She follows them everywhere and sleeps with them at night. She loves to be ‘nurse Nancy’ when they are sick and lays with them all day. She is a real jewel. The day we rescued her was the day her wonderful life started again. I have to believe that she had a family before that  that had children that loved her. She sure does have that now. Tiffany, thanks for sharing the photos.

Day 76 The Happy Birthday Boy

March 17th is son, Nick’s, 31st birthday. Where have all those years gone? I am so proud of him and his accomplishments. Here he is in all his Executive Chef’s glory doing what he loves the best; producing beautiful, yummy food. Happy Birthday Nick!!  I know I am way ahead with my days, but I have some very busy weeks ahead and was afraid I might not be able to keep up.

Day 75 Sunbeams Are For Sleeping

Jade knows how to really relax. I wish I could learn to relax like a cat. I need to find a  sunbeam to soak up, don’t I? Oh, to be a cat!

Day 74 Goats For The Barbecue

When I first saw all the goats, I figured the locals came to buy breeding stock. I was way wrong. These goats are bought by the eating places at the market and immediately taken behind the building and slaughtered. We saw carts full of freshly killed goats being taken to the ‘restaurants’ to be put on the grill. The places were just stalls along the street with little seating and lots of flies. Evidentally goat is the meat of choice for the barbecue.

Day 73 A Few Anchovies For Your Pizza?

This gal at the big market in Arusha was selling ‘fresh’ anchovies. Not sure I would buy any. This was not my idea of a sanitary place. The lady doesn’t look any too happy, does she? I wonder if it was because we were truly the only white people there.
